1. WRDA 2026 bill moves to Senate as Rep. Fry seeks Grand Strand, Pee Dee water upgrades (wpde.com) ā Georgetown is in line for more than $4 million in federal funding to upgrade its water and wastewater systems, as part of a larger water resources bill moving through Congress. Local leaders say the money would help modernize aging infrastructure, protect waterways, and improve reliability for families and businesses, though it still must clear the U.S. Senate before becoming reality.

Liberty Steel terminates contract with developer for Georgetown Site (counton2.com) ā Plans to turn Georgetownās former Liberty Steel mill into a mixed-use destination are on hold after the company ended its contract with the proposed developer. City officials and business owners who hoped the project would boost Front Street and the wider economy are now waiting to hear next steps at a September 24 public meeting at Winyah Auditorium.

SCDOT Public Meeting about proposed intersection improvement project in Georgetown County (whosonthemove.com) ā Drivers in Georgetown County can weigh in soon on a proposed roundabout at Waverly Road and Petigru Drive, aimed at improving safety and traffic flow near Pawleys Island. SCDOT will host a drop-in meeting October 1 at Waccamaw Intermediate School and accept public comments through October 15, with project details available both in person and online.

Georgetown County libraries to launch new series on American innovation, history (abcnews4.com) ā Georgetown County Library is launching a new series this October that links local history to 250 years of American innovation, from early shipping and railroads to space exploration. Backed by a $40,000 grant, the program will feature expert speakers, tours, and about 1,000 new books, highlighting how creativity and community have shaped both Georgetown County and the nation.
