2011: Sex Abuse Case Expands to Hanahan

Local police join other municipalities in ReVille investigation.

As the nation watched the sexual abuse case at Penn State ensnare one of the most revered football programs in the nation, Lowcountry schools were struggling with a similar story.

Mount Pleasant police in late October charged Louis "Skip" ReVille, an administrator at Coastal Christian Preparatory School, with performing sex acts on three teenage boys. A week after the arrest, Mount Pleasant police came back with more charges, saying two more boys had reported sexual contact with ReVille.

ReVille worked for several years with different local private schools as a teacher and coached with local recreation programs. The revelations in Mount Pleasant were followed by more accusations in Hanahan, where ReVille had once lived. 

Five cases in Hanahan were forwarded on to prosecutors in November, though its still unclear what charges ReVille will face. Hanahan Police documents revealed that just prior to his arrest.

The investigation also led to The Citadel, where ReVille had served as a camp counselor nearly a decade ago. In 2007, he was accused of abuse from years earlier.

Already recovering from an unrelated abuse case, the school investigated the claims against ReVille internally and quietly dropped the case, not forwarding the information to the police. who says the school acted irresponsibly.

Reportedly cooperating with investigators, .

In December, . Administrators are accused of knowing of ReVille's inappropriate behavior toward a student. The school has denied any knowledge of abuse.

Due to this case, as well as accusations against Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, and .

The cases have also prompted adults to get better educated about the signs of abuse and .

"They start seeing that people are being responsive," said Shauna Galloway-Williams with the Greenville-based Julie Valentine Center. "They see that victims are being taken seriously."
