5 Things From This Week's News

The weather was harsh and the crime was noteworthy.

1. Goose Creek's 10U All-Star baseball team won the Call Ripken Youth Baseball state championship on Tuesday after a nearly undefeated season. They'll be heading to New Bern, N.C., on July 28 for the regional contest, along with runner-up Mount Pleasant.

2. A letter went out to parents Tuesday announcing that the Noah's Ark Child Development Center . Management cited "the economic downturn." The move came less than a week after a 2-year-old was found in the middle of the road after allegedly wandering off from the site.

3. Residents had to suffer through sweltering heat Tuesday that only got . The humidity came with a daily dose of afternoon storms that capped off with a flash flood warning Thursday. The temperatures have cooled, but the chance for showers is expected to continue today.

4. There were several interesting crime stories. Eight cars on Evergreen Magnolia and Pecan Grove avenues last weekend. Several of the cars were targeted because of purses and other valuables left out in the open. Goose Creek Police had as a traffic stop turned into a chase on foot, followed by a second person arriving at the scene to allegedly get drugs out of the first suspect's car. On Thursday, the City of Charleston Police , 23, of Hanahan, for breaking into Police Chief Greg Mullen's home July 8.

5. Also of note: A pit bull/terrier mix is recovering after he was found with a chain embedded around his neck on Burnt Mills Road, according to a report by ABC News 4. The Doc Williams SPCA believes that "Lucky" had been chained up all of his life. The Berkeley County Animal Control is looking for information in the case.
