Berkeley Chamber Holiday Buy Local Program Boosts Local Economy While Giving Shoppers a $1,000 Reason to Patronize Local Merchants

(Berkeley County, SC) – The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce officially announced their new Holiday Buy Local initiative. This exciting event could generate over $1,500,000.00 worth of holiday sales right here in the local community. And, shoppers spending $300.00 with stores and vendors which are members of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce OR are located in Berkeley County between October 18, 2011 and December 19, 2011 will be entered into a drawing to win $1000 cash.

“It’s all about keeping our spending local and what that means to our economy during the busy holiday season,” says Bill McCall, President of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, “we need to keep as much money in our area as possible. Studies show that for every $100.00 spent locally, $45.00 stays in the community.”

McCall hopes this Berkeley County initiative will ‘catch-on’ in other places in the state and perhaps even across the nation.

“A simple local purchase can make an incredible difference in your community,” explains McCall.

This ambitious initiative has earned the support of local officials and business community. The ultimate goal is to emphasize the importance of buying local and the positive economic impact it has on both residents and businesses. The Chamber hopes it will become second nature for everyone to “think locally” when considering a new purchase.
