
The Tri-County chapters of Beta Sigma Phi crowned their 2013 Valentine Queens sponsored by the Greater Charleston Council of Beta Sigma Phi during the annual Valentine Queen’s Brunch, Saturday, Feb. 16. Xi Alpha Omega chapter chaired this year’s event which was held at the Joint Base Charleston Club.
Members were welcomed by Verna Erdman, council president. Tables were decorated with a Valentine theme to include games. Eight chapters were in attendance to help honor with these outstanding women in Beta Sigma Phi.
Beta Sigma Phi’s guidelines for being voted a chapter Valentine Queen include; Poise - how the member can handle different and unusual situations, keeping her composure and sensitive to the feeling of others. Beauty – not just the members’ outward beauty, but inner beauty. Personality – Is the member friendly, get along with longs and courteous? Special – is the member just a special person?

The 2013 chapter Valentine Queens were announced and crowned by past queens who presented a red rose as their resume was read.
Valentine Queens for this are: Barbara Lannan, Epsilon Master; Linda Farmer, Laureate Alpha Alpha; June Mizell, Laureate Beta; Barbara Lewis, Laureate Phi; Shari Fox, Laureate Zeta; Mary Sherry, Preceptor Upsilon; Peggy MacDonald, Xi Alpha Alpha and Fran Crist, Xi Alpha Omega.

Beta Sigma Phi, is an International social sorority and is a by invitation only group with eight chapters in the Greater Charleston area. The purpose is to provide women social activities, service opportunities and cultural projects of all kinds.
It is not a secret group, nor is it connected with any school or college, and is non-political and non-sectarian. Members are women of all ages, from all walks of life. Beta Sigma Phi has a membership of more than 165,000 women in over 20 countries throughout the world.
Chapters donate between 200 and 300,000 hours of time each year to charitable organizations and raise more than $2 million yearly.
