Charleston, S.C. (December 7, 2011) - Coastal Franchising, an established owner of Dunkin' Donuts franchises throughout the region, has announced that it has been awarded a grant from the Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation for programs at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children's Hospital in Charleston, S.C.

Coastal locations are raising money to match and add to the grant through a "Cups for Kids" effort. The stores are selling cut-out paper cups for a $1. Donors write their names or message on the cup, which is placed on a wall or window in the store. Additionally, the stores are donating $1 when customers purchase a dozen donuts or 50-count of Munchkin donut hole treats.

"MUSC is an important and key specialty hospital and our funds will have a huge impact as there is a need for equipment, toys and games for the children's play areas," said George Ross, CEO of SCCD. "We are so grateful that our customers are responding. The early results from day one were just huge! Charleston had more than $1,400 and those numbers are just for cup sales."

The promotion runs through December 17.

"The MUSC Children's Hospital is the 28th best children's hospital in the country," said Barbara Rivers, Head of Development at MUSC. "Our success in large measures is made possible through the generosity of private donors and corporations like Dunkin' Donuts who give unselfishly, knowing their families may never need our help. Thanks to Dunkin' Donuts and their customers, we are able to provide hope for a brighter tomorrow for those children we treat."

An integral part of the Medical University of South Carolina, the MUSC Children's Hospital is dedicated to enhancing the health of children throughout South Carolina, and to providing an environment that supports excellence in pediatric patient care, teaching and research.

Working in partnership with franchisees across the country, the Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation serves the basic needs of communities through food for the hungry, safety and children's health. The foundation partners with a limited number of national nonprofit organizations and works with franchisees to support regional and local community organizations. Since 2006, the foundation has donated more than $2 million.

"We are very committed to the community and giving back to those that help serve others as well as help the entire community," added Ross. "Our stores, employees and guests are an integral part of the community and we are very excited about the opportunity to give back as much as we can. If donuts and coffee can help the children in this great hospital all the better."

Coastal Franchising has operated nine Dunkin' Donuts stores in the region since 2007.
