New E-Waste Recycling Requirements

The City of Goose Creek’s Department of Public Works encourages residents to learn more about the 'E-Waste Recycling Bill' that goes into effect July 1, 2011. This new law passed by the South Carolina legislature bans consumers (i.e., those using computers for personal or home business use) from disposing of desktop and notebook computers, computer monitors, printers and televisions in landfills.

The law also requires that computer, printer, and television manufacturers provide recovery programs for desktop, laptop, notebook and tablet computers as well as computer monitors, printers and televisions from residents.

Beginning July 1, 2011 the Department of Public Works will no longer be able to collect computers (include desktop, laptop, notebook and tablet computers), computer monitors, televisions or printers from curbside. Residents can dispose of these items at all nine Berkeley County Convenience Centers. The nearest location to Goose Creek is the Oakley Road Convenience Center located at 606 Oakley Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Residents should delete all personal information from their electronic device prior to dropping off at a Convenience Center.
