Red Cross Assists Ladson Family Whose Home Was Destroyed By Fire

CHARLESTON, SC, October 20, 2011 – Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene of a Ladson home fire this morning to assist the family whose home was destroyed.

The Red Cross provided one adult and one child temporary shelter in a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food and clothing that was lost in the fire, and comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies. Referrals to Red Cross partner agencies were also provided to ensure the families long term emergency needs are met.

The Red Cross has assisted 914 individuals needing aid due to disasters, such as home fires, in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties since January 1, 2011. This includes 87 individuals assisted since October 1.
