Annexation Vote Today for Red Bank Area
Residents are asked to approve annexation that includes several nearby businesses
Residents of Plainfield Avenue and Cranford Road will be heading to the polls today to vote on annexing into the City of Goose Creek. Their vote will not only impact their community, but holds the fate of nearby businesses along Red Bank Road and Henry Brown Jr. Boulevard, as well.
The change may have some support in the neighborhood — the Post and Courier reported Monday that 70 residents signed a petition in support of the annexation. But a drive down Plainfield or Cranford finds several yard signs suggesting residents “Vote no” in today’s election.
Some residents opposed to the annexation told Patch that they didn’t see a benefit to the annexation and they feared the city's restrictions and a higher tax bill.
The area of Red Bank included on the annexation map is largely made up of a string of small businesses on one side of the street, some in better shape than others, as well as gas stations and shopping centers on the other side of the street.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Goose Creek High School, which is also one of the sites included in the proposed annexation.
