Two Lawsuits Follow Berkeley Inmate Deaths
Medical care questioned at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

Post and Courier reporter Dave Munday has a new story on a pair of lawsuits challenging the way Berkeley County's Hill-Finklea Detention Center cares for the medical needs of its inmates.
A complaint was filed in September regarding the 2010 death of David Allan Woods, a man who was serving a two-month sentence for shoplifting back in 2010 when he died.
A separate claim from April regards Michael A. Wilson, who was arrested for an alleged probation violation and died in custody in March 2010.

In response to the P&C's questions, Sheriff's Office attorney Sandra Senn said making medical judgement calls regarding inmate care is a "systemic problem" impacting many jails and they rely on medical professionals to determine appropriate care.
