Berkeley Schools Could Friend Facebook

Board to give first vote Tuesday for social networking policy.

Ready to "like" the Berkeley County School District?

The school board is expected to give a first look tonight at new social media standards as the district looks to develop a Facebook presence.

The proposed policy would instruct district staff to "update the district's social meadia communications frequently to share news about the achievements of our students and staff, as well as other relevant district community information."

The rules and standards also apply to school-specific Facebook pages, which will be established by the district, but maintained by principals or an appointed staff member.

But don't start looking for a Farmville request: Any post "must be related to the education and related activities of our students," according to the proposed rules.
