Blotter: Mysterious Shots Fired, Bullets Missing
Five-finger discount at a local school and a suspect uses a notebook as a weapon.

Shots Fired, Bullets Missing
At 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, police responded to the Pizza Hut at 107 N. Goose Creek Blvd. in reference to shots fired in the area. A manager told police that he was in his office when he heard four or five gunshots coming from the rear of the McDonald's next door. He left the office and walked outside, where he heard four or five more gun shots.
A McDonald's employee told police she saw a black Dodge Charger pull up to the drive thru. When another vehicle pulled up on the other side, the driver of the Charger reversed the car and headed toward the back of the lot. The second car followed suit. The employee said the Charger backed into the large trash bin at the back of the lot. Employees then heard gunshots. Both vehicles then sped off onto North Goose Creek Boulevard.

A police search of the parking lot didn't turn up any shell casings.
Tax Refund?
One local thief must be working under a different definition of "public property" than the rest of us. Marrington Elementary School staff contacted police last week when scrap metal went missing. The school is replacing the drop ceiling over the summer and was collecting the old aluminum and steel. The plan was to recycle the scrap and use it for other school projects. Surveillance footage shows a Green Ford F-150 making several trips to pick up the scrap metal.

Throw the (Note)Book at Him
Responding to a call of a potential car break-in, officers found two men huddled near a blue Ford Explorer, and a third man rummaging around in the car. Shining a light on the suspect in the car, the officer identified himself and told the man to step out. Instead, the suspect allegedly threw a notebook binder at the officer and fled into the nearby woods. He quickly fell and the officer was on him before he could get back up. The man was charged with breaking into a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
