Boy Recovering From Rattlesnake Bite

Howe Hall AIMS 3rd grader Zach Szala is working hard to finish the year off strong after a life-threatening snakebite in November.

Szala, 9, was visiting Wannamker County Park on a day off from school last year when he walked off the path and the snake attacked. The Howe Hall community came together, .

ABC News 4's Nikki Gaskins checked in with Zach, his family and teachers this week, six months after the snake bite. After returning to school this winter, Zach has been catching up on his work.

Elizabeth Szala, Zach's mom, said he's still got some memory loss and concentration issues, but he's finished the required therapy. "He barely even has a scar on the back of his leg now," she said.
