FREE PROSTATE  SCREENING SERIES
Thursday, Sept. 13

FOUR LOCATIONS: 

• Mount Pleasant Hospital
• Roper Hospital 
• Roper Hospital – Berkeley 
• RSF Cancer Center

SCREENING CRITERIA:

• African American and Hispanic men 35 and up and white males 40 and older.
• Not currently under the care of an urologist.
• No prior history of prostate cancer.
• At least 12 months since last prostate screening.

BURGER PROSTATE CHALLENGE (GOLF)

All funds raised from this fourth-annual golf tournament go toward awareness, screenings and the treatment of prostate cancer.

The event has already made a difference, with proceeds allowing RSF Cancer Care to acquire a nurse navigator who beginning this fall will assist patients and families.

Ken Burger, a cancer survivor himself, visits patients at Roper St. Francis hospitals. "It is thrilling to know that just by playing golf on one of the most beautiful courses in the world, we will so positively impact the lives of the men and their families that I meet while visiting cancer patients at the hospitals," he said. "When you have cancer you have endless questions. Now they'll have someone by their side to help get the answers."

USS YORKTOWN MEN’S HEALTH EVENT
Thursday, Sept. 27
6 p.m.

Join us for an evening of educational sessions on topics affecting men’s health aboard the USS Yorktown.

Speakers include Roper St. Francis urologists Dr. Britton, Dr. Carter and Dr. Kubinksi, Burger and other prostate cancer survivors.

PROSTATE CANCER
Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Nearly 215,000 U.S. men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008, the last year of available data. More than 28,000 men died of the disease that year.
