The Lowcountry's Exotic Animal Farm

It was a horrifying story from Ohio on Wednesday with 48 animals shot after they were allegedly released by their owner at the Muskingum County Animal Farm before he killed himself.

The Lowcountry has it's own exotic animal farm, though the local animals aren't quite as dangerous as many of those released in Ohio.

Joel Silver, the producer of Lethal Weapon and The Matrix franchise, spent years restoring the Frank Lloyd Wright home at Auldbrass, near Yemassee, and he made room for a few surprising pets.

The site hasn't been in the news for several years, but there's an annual tour to benefit local preservation groups.

The zebras, pygmy hippos and longhorn cattle that roam along the driveway were considered "eccentricities" in a 2003 New York Times article.

A 500-pound pygmy hippopotamus, also owned by Silver, escaped from the grounds in 2004 and died after it was hit by a car.
