Burglars Target Catalytic Converters at Area Dealerships

11 catalytic converters pulled off cars on South Goose Creek Boulevard.

Thieves have pulled at least 11 catalytic converters off cars at area dealerships in the past week.

On Aug. 17, the manager at Value Cars Rent to Own at 208 S. Goose Creek Blvd., contacted police regarding an overnight burglary. Between close of business Aug. 16 and early the next day, someone had stolen catalytic converters off of eight cars.

Three days later, the Stokes Kia dealership two doors had three catalytic converters pulled from cars on the lot.

It would have been more, but a neighbor to the dealership reported hearing what sounded like a saw out on the lot near 10:30 p.m. The neighbor said he shined a flashlight on the rear of the parking lot and saw unknown suspects flee into the woods.

A police search along the tree line led officers to the three car parts that had been abandoned by the thieves before they left the scene.
