City Council Approves Annexing Fire Station Site
Old Mount Holly property will house third firehouse.
Goose Creek City Council approved the annexation of a nearly 4-acre lot on Old Mount Holly Road, the site eyed for a third Goose Creek Fire Station. It's one of two fire station construction projects the city plans to begin work on in 2013.
The site cost the city $590,000, with construction of the new fire station expected to cost $2 million. The city is still working with architects.
The new substation will help cover areas currently serviced by the Brandywine headquarters, and it will be in a better position to service growth areas toward Carnes Crossroads.

The current headquarters station will be replaced by a new $4 million building on city-owned property near the public works facility on Brandywine.Â
Financing for both projects will come from tax increment financing — money that has been set aside from existing tax revenues in the downtown area to pay for redevelopment.
