City Moves Forward With Crowfield Rezoning
Change to preserve golf course to go before City Council.

The Crowfield Golf and Country Club should soon receive a little extra protection against future development.
On Tuesday, the City of Goose Creek's Planning Commission unanimously approved rezoning the last 21 acres of the property from "Planned Development" to "Conservation Open Space."
Resident Reggie Ryan told the Planning Commission that he supported the change, noting that it gives a more security to residents. "This will at least make it more difficult to buy it and develop it," he said.

The change now moves to the City Council for consideration. It has long been the city's plan to preserve the site, purchased in 2003. But the rezoning of this last portion was delayed so the city could amend zoning standards to allow for additional public uses on the site, like storing city vehicles in the parking lot overnight.
This summer, the city held several community events at the country club, including a weekly live music series and two at the city's pool. It's part of an effort to draw in more resident support for the site.

Officials expect to used to purchase the site next year. Mayor Michael Heitzler has said the city may then consider whether to invest in improvements, like a possible addition to the clubhouse.
