County Council Approves $70 million Budget

No tax increase in final approval for Berkeley's 2012-2013 spending plan.

County services will continues undisturbed on July 1, due to a swiftly called special meeting of the Berkeley County Council to salvage a $70.4 million plan for the 2012-2013 budget year.

On Monday, the over more than $440,000 owed to Trident Technical College that had been left unfunded. After two separate efforts to find the money were rejected in up-or-down votes, the entire budget failed in a 6-2 vote.

The Post and Courier notes that Steve Davis resurrected the proposed budget after voting against it Monday. The council agreed to at least temporarily fund the Trident Tech cost by dipping into the county's robust savings account.
