Crowfield Deed Restrictions Off Council Agenda

At least a month off for divisive vote on city-owned golf course.

There's a noticeable item absent from the Goose Creek City Council agenda: deed restrictions at the Crowfield Golf and Country Club.

Mayor Michael Heitzler has , attempting to keep future city council members from selling all or part of the site if the golf course fails.

The by a 4-3 vote, meaning it wouldn't receive an up-or-down vote by the council until a member of the majority brought it back up for consideration.

That didn't stop Heitzler from in April. But the effort to keep the issue in front of residents did little to sway the majority on council.

The mayor had told Patch that he would continue to bring the issue up at meetings. "I thought it would be prudent to bring it back every month until something happens with the deed restrictions," Heitzler said.

But its absence from the public agenda may be more about patience than it is conceding the point.

Tuesday's meeting will be the last for Councilman Sal Gandolfo, a long-serving member who opposed the deed restriction plan as Heitzler had presented it. Newly elected Councilman Franklin Moore will begin serving later this month and he has spoken in support of a deed restriction.

"I would like to see where we're together," Heitzler said last month regarding a council resolution. "I still think the city council will unanimously consent to deed restrictions eventually, I just haven't been skillful enough to bring them to that resolution."
