Drowning Near Moncks Corner
Coroner: Crews find body after swimming accident, investigation continues.

After a 90-minute search Sunday night, crews recovered the body of an unidentified drowning victim, according to Coroner Bill Salisbury.
An emergency call at 8:45 p.m. alerted officials to a possible drowning under the Hwy. 52 bridge in the Tail Race Canal near Moncks Corner.
Salisbury said the search team included the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the state Department of Natural Resources and Santee Cooper Law Enforcement. A Berkeley County Rescue diver recovered the body at 10:23 p.m.Â

The swimming accident is being investigated by the DNR, according to Salisbury. The coroner has ruled the death as accidental and the cause of death as drowning.Â
The name has been withheld until the family is notified.
