DUI Suspect Charged With Assaulting Officer

Hanahan police report struggle with man.

After Hanahan officers responded to a single-car accident Saturday, the charges started at open container in a vehicle and went downhill from there.

Kenny Richard Boyke Jr. was charged with impersonating an officer, assaulting a police officer, resisting or interfering with an officer, driving under the influence and open container.   

At 11:49 p.m. Saturday, officers arrived at Creekstone Way and Tanner Ford Boulevard to find Boyke sitting in the grass, reportedly with a red Solo cup of beer sitting next to him.

Officers allege that Boyke was driving west on Tanner Ford Boulevard when he went off the right side of the road, striking the curb and then a tree.

Officers administered a roadside sobriety test and then charged Boyke with DUI. He was cuffed and escorted to a patrol car. The suspect then allegedly lowered his shoulder and charged an officer, striking him in the side and pushing the officer against the patrol car. 

Boyke allegedly offered further resistance after being transported to Trident Medical Center for evaluation. No details were provided in the initial report on the charge of impersonating an officer.
