Eight Car Break-Ins In Montague Plantation

Goose Creek Police says lock car doors and hide valuables.

Eight cars were burglarized over the weekend in Montague Plantation, putting the neighborhood and surrounding communities on notice to keep valuables out of sight.

A vehicle break-in Friday afternoon on Evergreen Magnolia Avenue was followed by seven thefts Sunday night along Evergreen and nearby Pecan Grove Avenue. Stolen items include a cell phone, three purses, a GPS unit, and a dashboard CD/DVD player. Two victims had car windows broken, but nothing taken from inside.

The victim in the first incident contacted Goose Creek Police on Friday afternoon after someone stole his cell phone from the center console of his SUV. On Monday morning, several neighbors awoke to find they too were victims.

One woman noted someone had smashed the passenger side window and stole her daughter's purse from the seat. Another had left her purse in the back floorboard and a third in her front floorboard. In several of the instances, windows were broken, but some of the cars had been left unlocked.

"Residents should remove valuables from their vehicles or store them out of view and most importantly, lock their vehicles," said Goose Creek Police Capt. John Grainger. "While some thefts from vehicles are the result of forced entry, most are from unlocked vehicles."

Most importantly, Grainger said people should look out for suspicious activity and report it to police.
