Fairfax CVS Gets Planning Commission Hearing Monday

Resident likely to voice concerns about traffic, site entrance.

The Goose Creek Planning Commission will hear a rezoning request for the proposed CVS site at the corner of St. James Avenue and Fairfax Boulevard.

The drugstore chain is looking to build on the wooded site, replacing the existing location in the Big Lots shopping center a few blocks down St. James Avenue.

But existing zoning puts strict limitations on the type of commercial development that could be located on the parcel, in part to protect the Fairfax residents from over development.

About 60 residents recieved a first look at the CVS site plans in September, and noted their concerns about increased traffic around the entrance to the neighborhood, particularly because of the community playground on the other side of the Fairfax entrance.

Yet, in spite of their concerns, developers are pushing forward with the rezoning request for the CVS and will be presenting to the planning commission beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 519 N. Goose Creek Boulevard.
