Family Remembers Shooting Victim, Thank Berkeley Deputies
Robert Lamar Moultrie's body found in Francis Marion Forest.
The body of Robert Lamar Moultrie was found in the Francis Marion Forest early on Sept. 11. An autopsy determined he'd died from gunshot wounds. Two men have been arrested in the case and charged with murder. Moultrie's family released the following letter.
On Sept. 9, 2012, our lives changed forever. The smile and laugh that we loved so much was taken away from us in a senseless and horrible way.Â
Robert Lamar Moultrie, his mother's last child her, baby boy, his brother's little brother, a loving grandson, a nephew with a big heart, a favorite cousin, a loyal father to his kids and a loving companion to his fiancé. Robert Lamar Moultrie was murdered and taken from us on Sept. 9, 2012. Please excuse us, the family, for not coming forward earlier. This is a very difficult time for all of us and making it to the next hour is a struggle. But being the loving trusting person he was his life was taken from him and us without any thought.Â

We would like to tell you a little bit about Lamar.Â
Lamar was a loving and caring person to everyone. Lamar was a person who never liked to cause trouble; Lamar was the one that would try to help solve the problem.
Lamar was always there for his kids. Whatever they had going on, Lamar made sure he was there. Family meant everything to Lamar. On that Monday morning when he didn't come home, Lamar's kids asked where he was because he was always there when they left to go to school.

Lamar's life did not deserve to be taken in this manner. As a matter of fact, it bothers us every day to think that Lamar was shot and killed then left in his car for days. Now we have to live with this emptiness and the sight of his vehicle.  It makes our hearts just seem to stop beating.
Why did someone else feel that it was alright to take his life and destroy ours?Â
All Lamar did was work to be a good person and to do the right thing. Lamar was attending Horry-Georgetown Technical College in hopes to getting degree in heating and cooling to start his own business.  And yet Lamar's gone.
Lamar was a loving friend.  When his friend was sick and was in the hospital, he made sure he was there for him. When the friend got out of the hospital, he would drive from Conway to Santee just to take him out for rides to get out of the house.Â
When Lamar's neighbor got out the hospital Lamar and the kids got him a card and flowers and took them to his house and made sure his family knew if they needed anything he would be there.
Lamar was the older cousin that was there for all the younger ones. Lamar was at the basketball games, at the award ceremonies.  When he arrived at cookouts or parties, all the kids ran up to him calling his name.
Lamar was the nephew that helped his aunt move in 100 degree heat and never complained once or even stopped to get a drink Lamar never asked for anything in return.
Lamar was the grandson who thought the world of his grandmother and she of him. If there was anything that he could do for her he would.
His fiancé was his heart. No matter what they went through, we all knew she was the one he wanted to spend his life with.
He had a bond with his mother and brothers that no one could break or describe.
Two people who murdered our loved one are in jail. Their family will still be able talk, hug and see their loved one, but we will never be able to do that.Â
The reality is we have to live every day remembering how we searched and searched in hopes of finding him only to discover that he was left in his car for days. That's something we will have to live with and think about every day.
Seeing your child's name on a headstone is not something any parent should have to live through.
We don't want this to be a case where it seems that victims are forgotten about. We heard a lot about criminals getting time for good behavior. We don't want those charged to get off at anytime for good behavior. Will Lamar get time for good behavior?
Our family did not ask to be a victim. Lamar did not ask to be a victim. But that is what happened because of the act of these people. We now have an empty place in our hearts. Each picture we take will now be missing a person.
If we have to spend the rest of our lives trying to keep these people behind bars we will...
At what point do victims have some peace?  When can they work toward some peace and not have to continue to relive this over and over again.
We have visions of Lamar lying in a casket. We have visions of what he went through when he was shot.
This is hard. It's hard every day. It will probably be hard for the rest of our lives.
They should have to pay for what they did to Lamar and our family.
We will continue to pray that justice will be served for Lamar.
TO LAMAR
If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane,Â
We would walk all the way to Heaven, to bring you home again
No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why
Our hearts ache in sadness, and secret tears will flow
What it meant to lose you, no one will ever know.RIP Lamar wishing you were here
Missing you more everyday, every hour, every minute, every second...
We would like to send a special thanks to the Berkeley County Sheriff Department for all they have done to bring the two people in for the murder of Lamar.
