Fatalities Down Sharply in Berkeley County
Two highway deaths in first three months of 2012.

Highway deaths have dropped sharply in the first three months of 2012 when compared to the same period during the last three years.
According to numbers released by the S.C. Department of Public Safety, the State Highway Patrol reported two Berkeley County deaths in the first quarter of this year, compared to 9 in 2011, 11 in 2010 and 11 in 2009.
The drop in Berkeley fatalities is the most significant in the state. Charleston has reported 11 fatalities, equal to the same period last year. Dorchester County reported three fatalities for the first quarter of 2012, down from 5 in the same period in 2011.

At 180, statewide fatalities are down slightly from the same period in 2011.
