Felony DUI Charges Following Car Chase Wreck

The passenger in a fleeing vehicle is still hospitalized more than a week after a wreck ended a Hanahan car chase. The driver has been charged with felony DUI.

Eldred Dana Anderson, 27, of North Charleston, was charged with felony DUI and failure to stop when signaled by law enforcement where great bodily harm occurs, leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily injury, along with two driving violations.

On April 14, an officer was patrolling Yeamans Hall Road when he spotted a 2005 Lincoln allegedly driven by Anderson that crossed the center line. The car continued onto Murray Drive. After it crossed the center lane a second time, the officer turned on his lights and siren.

The driver sped up, allegedly reaching up to 115 mph in a 35 mph zone. As the two cars headed towards the sharp curve at Fishburne Drive, the officer slowed his vehicle, but the Lincoln, allegedly traveling at approximately 90 mph, left the roadway, striking a tree head on.

According to the officer on the scene, Anderson climbed out the driver's side window and fled on foot. He was successfully tracked by a K-9 unit.

The passenger, Michelle Sims, was trapped in the car. It took first responders more than an hour to get her out. She suffered two broken legs, a broken rib and a broken neck. She is listed in good condition at MUSC.
