Fire Latest: Families, Residents Struggle After Blaze

On May 31, a violent fire tore through the Pine Harbour Apartments, killing three, including a four-year-old boy. Dozens of residents, including several families, were displaced.

The Post and Courier's Glenn Smith and Andrew Knapp wrote Sunday about the struggle for some residents following the tragedy, including stories of the victims and survivors.

"Everything happened so fast," resident Nichole Amerson told the reporters. "We lost everything. We have nothing."

Last week, ABC News 4 reported on the 911 calls from the scene as the fire moved from one apartment to the next, damaging 16 units before it was over. "You said somebody is trapped inside?" the dispatcher asked in one exchange.

"They're saying a child is trapped inside," the caller replied. "I don't know who lives up there, oh my God!"

News 4 also followed up with a Hanahan church organizing a donation drive for the apartment residents homeless after the fire. The group has seen a tremendous outpouring of support for the program, including boxes and boxes of clothes and several donations of bedroom and kitchen needs, and more.
