Fire Stations, Mead Westvaco and School Funding on This Week's Agendas

What public bodies will be considering this week.

The Goose Creek City Council will hold a workshop, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, in Council Chambers, 519 N. Goose Creek Blvd.

The main topic will be in the city. A proposed site purchase from Alcoa fell through, leading the city to readjust plans for new fire stations. City Administrator Dennis Harmon expects to propose a new fire headquarters on existing city property and a new fire substation near the St. James Avenue Walmart.

The City Council will also hold its annual strategic planning workshop beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 27, in the multi-purpose room at the Goose Creek Recreation Center next to the municipal complex.

The Berkeley County Council and several committees will begin meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, July 23, in council chambers, 1003 Hwy. 52, Moncks Corner.

There will be a public discussion on rezoning of more than 6,700 acres from agriculture to planned office/industrial development. The site is referred to as the Mead Westvaco Camp Hall property. Agenda.

The council will vote on the rezoning later in the night, along with a proposal that would reportedly allow liquor stores in the Cane Bay shopping center. Agenda.

The council's Finance Committee is expected to discuss options for funding the county's commitment to a Trident Technical College program. The issue was at the center of a days-long budget fight in June. Agenda.

The Berkeley County School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district boardroom, 229 East Main St., Moncks Corner. The board is expected to take action on the 2012-13 budget and a proposed resolution on an upcoming voter referendum. Agenda.
