Firing, Suspensions in Wake of Berkeley Jail Escape
Berkeley County Sheriff's Office announces actions Monday.

Four Berkeley County Sheriff's Office employees have been reprimanded following a Jan. 26 escape from the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
One employee was fired.
James Sanders, 39, escaped from the Moncks Corner facility Jan. 26. He has been on the run since. He was being held in domestic violence case, as well as additional charges.

Sanders was , but he was not apprehended.
"To ensure that safety, we took immediate action as necessary," said Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Moon in a release. "After an investigation and thorough review, one employee was terminated, one was demoted, and two were suspended, all for failing to follow procedures."

Moon told Patch that he could not release more information on the specific role the four employees held at the facility.
The Post and Courier reported soon after the escape that the jail had changed release procedures after Sanders ran through an employee exit and escaped.Â
