Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established.  The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. He who gives attention to the word shall find good. And blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Matthew 5:16,43-48

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.  "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.'  But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax-gatherers do the same?  And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

To get your best possible deal in life, you want to be sure you get what God wants for you, rather what you want.  God always knows what’s best for you.  He knows what’s around the bend even when you don’t. And so to get that “great deal,” you must “commit your works to Him and your plans will be established; your steps directed.”  That just means to specifically tell God that with any decision you have to make, with anything that is on your heart, you want Him to make it come out the way that He wants it to. That way, you get your diamond, instead of your rhinestone. That’s what God can do for you.  Now, what does God want you to do?  He wants you to remember to let your light shine, by being nice to everyone. God wants your words to be “pleasant,” like a honeycomb to the soul of someone who is hurting.  It is so easy to “pop off” and lose your temper when you are tense, because events in your life might be up in the air, and not going the way that you think that they should be at this particular moment.  But that’s when you have to remember God.  He is the one that is directing the big picture….your big picture. So, the next time you start to feel “testy,” ask yourself, “Is my light shining?  Am I glorying God?”  God will take care of you.  Your job is care for the people He has put in your world.
