Friday Football: Goose Creek Beats Ashley Ridge

Results from Friday night's action.

The Goose Creek Gators walked on the field Friday night — the first challenge in defense of their AAAA Division 2 state title.

Thre results were as expected: It wasn't effortless, but the Gators proved once again they're the force to be reckoned with in S.C. high school football. Goose Creek beat Ashley Ridge 48-16.

Last seasons rising stars, Tramel Terry and Caleb Kinlaw, showed they were ready to get back in the action. But the Gators showed the strength of the team, including four touchdowns from the new name you'll here over and over again: Rashard Alston.

Is it possible to have a bigger win Friday night? Well, if you consider Cane Bay faced Summerville in the Cobras' first AAAA challenge and bested the Wave, 10-3. It's 1-0 for Cane Bay as they travel to Ford Dorchester for week two.

Last season, Stratford kicked off the season with a 28-0 win against Berkeley High. This season, it was 21-0 — and, this time, the Knights were on the road. Next week, Stratford comes home for a game against Sumter.

Timberland was destined to be a tough game for Hanahan. The two teams provided an exciting game, but the Hawks lost, 25-21. Hanahan is 1-1 going into next week's home game against another tough competitor: Bishop England.
