Gingrich Confirmed for Tim Scott Town Hall

Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said he'll host Newt Gingrich at a town hall on Nov. 28. It's the latest GOP Presidential Primary candidate to line up for a chance to share the stage with Charleston's freshman House member.

After a high-profile exit by his senior staff early in the campaign, the former House speaker has found signs of support in the polls with a string of successful debate performances and recently .

Several candidates have visited with Scott and a few hundred voters in the town hall series in recent months, including , , and . Rick Santorum will be the guest at , this Saturday in Summerville.

Scott's forums have become a key platform for candidates traveling through the Lowcountry. Cain's September event brought out well over 300 — an overflow crowd for the small auditorium at Daniel Island School — an early indication of the support he has found in the polls since then.

"Candidates keep saying, 'I really want to come to your forum,'" Scott said. "The candidates themselves are getting interaction with everyday voters and they want more."

Scott expected to have made an endorsement by now, but he says he's happy to hold off. "We're going to be paying attention to what these candidates are doing," he said. "We'll make a decision on an endorsement after we finish the town hall series — we're about a month away."

Remaining contenders in the field include consistent first-tier candidate Mitt Romney and libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

Scott has yet to settle on a candidate. He won't rule out sitting out this primary. After a high-profile interview process with the candidates, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., suggested of the weekend he .

"I'm confident I'm going to be looking for a candidate to endorse," Scott said. "What happens will be dependent on the candidates themselves and how confident I am that they represent our value system here."
