
The Goose Creek City Council gave unanimous approval this week the the comprehensive plan.
The comprehensive plan will be used as a guide during decision making by the city's planning and zoning boards, as well as other committees and the council. The city's last comprehensive plan was adopted in 1999.
The five guiding principles included in the new comprehensive plan include:

- Maintaining a balance between green and open spaces and a growing population.
- Promoting reinvestment in existing residential and commercial neighborhoods.
- Maintaining safety and security levels and protecting natural and cultural resources.
- Providing planned infrastructure for future growth.
- Meeting the needs of existing and prospective businesses and industries.
Public input sessions and surveys were done in April 2009 followed by monthly steering committee meetings facilitated by the staff of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Government.
"The 2010 Comprehensive Plan is based on residents’ and community leaders' long-range vision for community growth and beautification of the City," said Planning Director Daniel Ben-Yisrael.Â
