Hanahan Businesswoman Honored At White House

UEC Electronics president recognized as a Champion of Change.

Rebecca Ufkes, president of Hanahan-based UEC Electronics, will be honored Thursday at the White House as an innovator and job-creator.

An engineering and design firm, UEC and its staff.

It's a 300-watt power system integrating solar panels and batteries to provide DC power for everything from laptops and tent lights to tactical radios.

The Post and Courier points out that business is booming at UEC.

The firm has ramped up production to provide 270 of the $35,000 power systems by the end of March. "They anticipate that requests for the units will increase," Ufkes said.

An order for another 5,000 of the units to be delivered over five years is expected, Straight said.

The White House's Champions of Change program awards people who "out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world" with "ideas to win the future."

Thursday's program will also help kick off a day of events at the White House called "Make it in America," bringing together leaders in creating high-quality jobs in the U.S.
