Hanahan Heading to Lower State Tournament
Baseball, softball teams hosting first round play Saturday.

The Hanahan Hawks will host the first round of the Lower State tournament Saturday after a 10-0 win over Waccamaw on Wednesday.
The team coasted through the AA District 6 tournament, beating Branwell, 6-0, in the first round, followed by a 10-2 win over the Waccamaw Warriors in the second round.
Lots of standout talent at the plate Wednesday. A homerun in the first inning by Nick Zerbst brought the first two runs, with a final homrun by Hunter Bessinger in the sixth closing out the game.

In the fourth, with bases loaded, Jose Rivera took advantage of his one at-bat, hitting a double against the fence to bring in three runs. A single from Ryan Manore brought Rivera around for another run. And that was followed by a double from Bret Hines to send Manore back to home plate for a fifth run.
Goose Creek lost to Ashley Ridge, 12-0, Wednesday. The Gators finished second in the AAAA District 8 tournament.

Cane Bay lost to Berkeley High in two games Wednesday, finishing second in the AAA District 7 tournament.
In softball, the Hanahan girls will host Aynor on Saturday in the first round of the AA Lower State tournament. The other teams competing are Andrews and Dillon.
In the AA District 6 tournament, Hanahan defeated Pelion in the first round, 9-2, followed by an 11-10 win over Waccamaw in round two. In Wednesday's finals, Waccamaw one a first game, 3-2. But Hanahan came back in the second game for a 10-6 win to clinch the Lower State slot.
Stratford lost to White Knoll on Wednesday, finishing second in the AAAA District 5 tournament.
