Hanahan High Hosting "Hope for Henryville" Fundraiser

Money raised will go toward tornado-ravaged Indiana athletic program.

The Hanahan athletic department is hosting a day of fundraising to benefit athletic programs in tornado-torn Henryville, Ind.

Hanahan's 'Hope for Henryville' drive will be held at 4:30 p.m. Mar. 28 at Hanahan High School. The drive will benefit the Henryville High School athletic department.

Henryville is a southern Indiana town with a population of close to 2,000. Hundreds of homes, schools and buildings were destroyed by the category EF4 tornado that struck the small town on March 3.

The Henryville High School was decimated, yet the town has made alternative plans for returning to school and the athletic director plans to continue with the spring season.

"Our goal is to raise as much money as we can to help them continue with their athletic program," said Hanahan High Athletic Director Dawn Smith. "In spite of the devastation, they want to get back on the field, so we are pitching in to help."  
 
Individuals can help by purchasing tickets to any of the Hanahan High games taking place on March 28:

  • The Hanahan baseball team has a home game against Dobyn's Bennett, Tenn., at 6 p.m.
  • The Hanahan softball team has a home game against Newark, Ohio. at 6 p.m.
  • The Hanahan track team has a home meet at 5 p.m.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be sent to Henryville High School.

There will be Hanahan High athletic jerseys and concessions for sale, as well as games, face painting and jump castles for children. Donations will be accepted throughout the night.
 
Tickets will be pre-sold for $5 at Hanahan High and through the Hanahan Recreation Department. For information, contact Smith at 843-820-3710.
