Hanahan Hosting Meeting on Water Quality
City offering ways to improve the Goose Creek Reservoir.

Hanahan officials are hosting a public meeting Monday to discuss water quality issues in the city.Â
It's an effort to educate residents around the Goose Creek Reservoir about the dangers of landscape treatments with too many chemicals, as well as other ways to protect the water quality in Hanahan.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the courtroom at City Hall, 1255 Yeamans Hall Road.

The Goose Creek Reservoir is on the Department of Health and Environmental Control's list of impaired waterbodies due to naturally occurring elevated levels of phosphorus and not enough dissolved oxygen.
According to the city, stormwater runoff from adjacent development into the reservoir can lead to algae blooms, "dead zones" incapable of sustaining aquatic life and fish kills.
