Ladson Man Suffers Severe Burns in Alleged Break-In

Substation damage temporarily cuts power to thousands in College Park area.

A Ladson man suffered severe burns early this morning after allegedly breaking into a Berkeley Electric substation, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s spokesman Dan Moon tells Patch that deputies think the man was trying to steal copper from the station on College Park Road when he came in contact with a high-voltage line.

Found at his Miami Street home, the man was transported to the Trident Medical Center and then to a burn center in Augusta, Ga., with serious wounds. Moon said charges will be forthcoming, but will depend on his recovery.
