Hanahan Wins Traffic Safe Community Award
Goose Creek also a finalist in AAA Carolinas' competition.

The City of Hanahan was named the 2011 AAA Traffic Safe Community of the Year on Thursday.
AAA Carolinas' Foundation for Traffic Safety hands out the award to municipalities in three categories based on population. Hanahan won the 10,000 to 30,000 category. Other winners included Mount Pleasant and Cameron.
"While there is much work still to be done, these law enforcement departments recognized today are making South Carolina a safer place to drive and live," said Tom Crosby, president of AAA Carolinas Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Winners are selected based on crash statistics, size of the police force, traffic safety programs and traffic enforcement.
"The Hanahan Department focuses its enforcement on high crash areas that have proven prone to accidents and injuries," according to a statement by AAA. "They also educate the community in schools and businesses, focusing on curbing distracted and drunk driving."

Goose Creek, a repeat winner, was a finalist in the 30,000 or greater category.
