High School Football Roundup

Football practice begins this week. And we’ve got one whopping football update for Goose Creek and Hanahan.

The Post and Courier has the schedule for the annual two-day Sertomoa Classic jamboree at The Citadel. It’s Hanahan vs. Burke, Stratford vs. Porter-Gaud and Goose Creek vs. Berkeley. All three games are on Thursday, Aug. 18. Games begin at 6:30 p.m.

Jason Gilmer’s Palmetto Football Talk blog is a must for S.C. high school fans. In one recent post, he gives some space for Jim Baxter’s 4A picks. Of note:

2. Goose Creek Gators - The Gators could quite possibly have the best team in the state, with a solid core of returning talent in skill positions …

17. Stratford Knights - This team is probably a year away from being “back” to form, with a very successful freshman team last year and a solid group of sophomores …

Gilmer also points out a Hanahan big number last season.

It was a close competition to see who would be the highest-scoring 2A team from last season, but Hanahan won the honor by a touchdown — literally.
