Historical Marker Mystery Solved: Boy Scout Project

A day after a report of missing markers, Live 5 finds they're being restored.

Harve Jacobs of Live 5 News talked to Berkeley County Historical Society member Ann Yarborough who was worried they were being sold for scrap.

"They're desperate I guess. They have no sense of community pride to do something like this," she said.

The story had a happy ending Tuesday. Boy Scout Jamie Greenwood is restoring the historical markers as part of his effort to become an Eagle Scout.

"I was kind of frustrated because I was trying to help the community and I didn't want them to think we were trying to steal signs and sell them for scrap," Greenwood said.

The boy's family got all the proper approval and sent notice to the Sheriff's Office and the Historical Society, but there was confusion with the timeline for removal.

Jacobs also talked with Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler regarding two recent vandalism cases involving historical markers.
