Hooverville Horrors! MNE 5th Grade Students Experience The Great Depression of the 1930s
Marrington 5th graders are “living” the Great Depression. Students have been learning about shanty towns that were built during the 1930s by people who lost their jobs and homes. These shanty towns became known as “Hoovervilles” because many Americans blamed President Herbert Hoover for the Depression. 5th graders used their knowledge of the Great Depression and their creative minds to build their own “Hooverville” out of cardboard. A special thanks to Charles River Laboratory and FedEx for their donation of cardboard boxes. The two Fifth Grade Classes at Marrington are taught by Mrs. Katie Lamb and Mrs. Jan Nutt
