How To Avoid Getting Spun Up In Things That Don’t Really Matter

Psalm 116:1,2,4-9,12,16,16,17,18

I Love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my supplications.  Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.  Then I called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beseech Thee, save my life!"  Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate.  The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For Thou hast rescued my soul from death, My eyes from tears, My feet from stumbling. I shall walk before the LORD In the land of the living. What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me?  O LORD, surely I am Thy servant, I am Thy servant, the son of Thy handmaid, Thou hast loosed my bonds.  To Thee I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, And call upon the name of the LORD. I shall pay my vows to the LORD, Oh may it be in the presence of all His people.

Luke 10:41-42
But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;  but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

It is really easy to get caught up and spun up in things that don’t really matter. And God has great advice for avoiding that particular trap:  Choose the good part (Luke 10:42).   The “good part” is all about love.  The good part is about being there for others.  The good parts are the “things” that when you are 88 years old you will look at your life and say to yourself, “Yes, I’m glad I concerned myself with what and who really mattered.” Even when times are tricky, remember: God is there for you.  When you ask Him to, God will rescue you.  He will bring you to a place that you might not have thought you should be, but it will be the place you are supposed to be at this time in your life.  Your job in return is to be His servant by treating other people the way that God would want you to and have a grateful heart for all that He has done for you.  In other words, concern yourself with “the good parts.”  That way your time and actions will be devoted to goodness and your head and heart will be full of how thankful you are.  And as you tell people about why you are like you are, it will keep you focused on “the good part” which will keep your soul at peace.  And that was why God told you about the good part in the first place!
