How To Avoid The Paralyzing World Of “What ifs”

Romans 8:37
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

Proverbs 1:33
"But he who listens to me shall live securely, and shall be at ease from the dread of evil."

Proverbs 3:1-3
Do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; And peace they will add to you. Bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Sometimes it is not the “thing” or actual event that throws your spirit off the apple cart of contentment, but rather the anticipation of what might be coming your way that undoes you. The Bible has a term for this way of thinking: the “dread of evil.” Satan just loves when you are all caught up in the world of “what ifs,” because when your mind is full of how hard something is going to be, it can paralyze you. You won’t feel like doing anything because of how tricky “it” might be. But God is so great. He says very specifically that those who listen to Him will “live securely and shall be at ease from the dread of evil.” That means that it is His voice alone that can “ease” or comfort your fears. But how do you actually “hear” His voice? First, you pray about it. Ask God to take over whatever situation that you are dreading; whether it is your job, a move or the health of a loved one and let Him direct “it” to go the way it is supposed to go. Second, have some arrows in your quiver. Think of yourself as a Native American from the “olden” days. You wouldn’t go off to war without some deadly arrows to arm yourself against the enemy. Bible verses are one of the weapons that God has given you to fight off your opponent. Repeat them over and over when your mind flicks onto whatever it is that you are dreading. But just like with a song, you have to know the words before you can sing it “by heart.” That’s why you’ve got to have some verses memorized before the problem arises. There are hundreds of “power verses” that are great to use when your “dread alert” starts to rise, but here are three specific ones to try. First, Proverbs 3:5, 6:“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him; And He will make your paths straight.” Second, Romans 8:28: “God works all things together for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Both of these verses affirm that if you ask God to take your problem, He will and “fix” it better than you ever could have hoped for. The third powerful verse is Matthew 6:33: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” This verse is all about that when you ask God to give you what He wants in any situation; it is always the best thing. That way you can’t mess things up by making a bad decision. Bible verses are just one of the ways that God can “talk” to you. As you repeat these helpful verses, it will shrink your “dread of fear,” because you can “rest assured” that God, the Master Planner of all, has “it” all worked out in the best possible of ways.
