How To Calm Your Heart When It Is Hurting About Someone You Love

Psalm 145:2-7, 14-18

Every day I will bless Thee, And I will praise Thy name forever and ever.  Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise Thy works to another, And shall declare Thy mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of Thy majesty, And on Thy wonderful works, I will meditate. And men shall speak of the power of Thine awesome acts; And I will tell of Thy greatness. They shall eagerly utter the memory of Thine abundant goodness, And shall shout joyfully of Thy righteousness.  The LORD sustains all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down. Romans 8:28

God causes all things to work together for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. 

  God doesn’t promise that tricky things won’t happen to you; what He does promise is that He will be with you in your difficult time and ultimately you won’t fall.  But things can still be painful and uncertain when “stuff” happens either to you or to someone you love.  When things that are not so great happen to your loved ones, often it is even worse because if “it” were happening to you, you would handle it one way and bare whatever was coming your way.  But when something difficult happens to your loved one, it is really hard because first you don’t like to see them in pain and second, you can’t really walk their walk for them.  And that’s hard because if you were totally in charge you might do something differently, in the hopes that they wouldn’t have to experience pain. God knows all of this and so He sends you strategies to calm your heart when it is hurting about someone that you love.  First, put that person in His loving hands. Say, “God, I can’t fix my person, so I am putting them in your hands and trusting that you will take care of them, love them and direct them in the way that they should go.”  Then you do everything you can do for that person, and when your heart gets anxious, which it will, ask God to send you wisdom to say the “right” thing to help them in any way, and to fill your soul with peace while you accompany your loved one during this chapter of their life.  That’s all you can do.  God is your Calvary. The end of the journey in any situation may never be what you thought you wanted, but with God riding with you, it will be what it is supposed to be.  Just keep the eyes of your spirit on your Leader.  It is the only way to stay at peace during the roughest of rides.
