Proverbs 3:5,6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
When people talk in “Bible-speak,” they really want to help you by quoting scripture. So they throw out these great little phrases in the hopes of giving you some comfort. But the problem comes when you have no idea how to actually do what they are talking about. For example: “How do you find ‘God’s will’ for your life?” And that’s a real biggy because if you aren’t where God wants you to be, doing the things God wants you to do, or with the person God wants you to be with (which is otherwise known as “God’s will for your life”), you have accepted a rhinestone rather than the diamond that God had planned for you. So, in the hopes of clarifying that most important of Biblical concepts, here are four easy steps to help you find God’s will for your life; in other words: “How to determine the direction of your path.” The first step in knowing God’s will is to really trust and believe that He wants to show you the way that you should go. Why would God want to keep you in the dark about what He wants for you? God is like a loving parent who wants you to succeed, keep you from harm, and steer you in the best direction. A loving parent would never intentionally direct you in a way that wouldn’t be in your best interest. And one of the many things that is so great about God is: He already knows what is best for you. He knows the consequences and the outcome of all your decisions before you make them.

So, once you have the “God as Loving Parent” concept down, the next step is to specifically ask God to point you in the direction that He wants you to go. Period. Easy as Pie.
After you have asked God about your specific concern, you are ready to move on to step three which is: Look for your signs and signals. If a particular path seems open to you, give it a chance. If all the doors slam shut, that was clearly not the path that God wanted you to take.

Step four is the “Redirection Clause.” Say to God, “I want what you want. I believe the way I’m going is the right way and if it’s the wrong way, please close that door and put me on the path that you want me to take.” Then move! Take your car out of park and put it in drive. God will be your co-pilot! God has promised to show you the way that you should go. When you ask Him to guide you, then take those directed steps, you will be on the right path. And one more thing: After taking the path of faith, the path that you believe God has directed you to, rest in the knowledge that you have done what God wanted you to do. To second guess yourself would be to show a lack of faith. Verbally rejoice that God shown you the path that was specifically designed for you, and then enjoy your journey!
