How To Keep Your Spirit At Rest No Matter What Is Happening In Your World

Proverbs 16:3,7
Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established.  When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

God wants you to be “at peace,” which is another way of saying He wants you to not be anxious or fearful.  And so God gives you a very specific game plan to keep your spirit at rest no matter what is going on in your world.  First, at the start of every day, ask God to renew your spirit and give you a clean heart; a new heart (Psalm 51:10).  Each day say, “Today’s going to be Your day.  Give me the wisdom to handle everything that comes way like You would want it to be handled.”  And when you sincerely do that, all good things will come to you.  All the things that are “supposed” to happen, will.    That’s what God means and promises, when He says, “Seek first His kingdom, and His righteousness, then all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).  You can’t change what will come into your world. There will always be tricky or disappointing people and circumstances. That’s why God says not to be afraid of “sudden fear,” the “thing” that pops up in your world that you weren’t expecting and would rather not deal with.  Don’t be afraid because He will be with you and your “foot won’t get caught” (Proverbs 3:26). Think of yourself like a rabbit in the woods.  There may be traps all around, but your foot won’t get tangled or mangled! You have God! You aren’t going down.  And guess what?  There will always be a whole mess of “traps” in your world, because Satan would just love to get you out of the game.  That’s why EACH day, say that verse, right out loud, “Create in me a new heart and restore my spirit.”  That is how you retain your joy.  And the other little helpful hint, strategy, or prescription for keeping your spirit at peace is: To the best of your ability, keep your words sweet.  When you put your message out there in a positive way, thinking to yourself before you say something, “If God were listening, how would I say it?”  Or better still ask God to give you the words to make the situation better.  There are all kinds of scripture verses that back up why it would be beneficial to say things in a kindly way…good for the situation and good for you.  For example: “Sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.  Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16:21,24).  The bottom line with God is that He doesn’t tell you these things to make your life hard, He tells them to you so you will have a better day, a better life and then you will in turn, share that joy with others.  So this day, keep your words “sweet” and pray for a new heart.  You will feel better and get better results no matter what is going on.
