How To Let Go Of Something You Can’t Control

John 14:1,25

Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God. All this I have spoken while still with you.  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.   Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

1 Peter 5:6,7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.

Problems that keep you awake at night are like a tree that isn’t in your yard.  No matter how much you think you could do a better job of tending to it, or you just hate it, and wish you could chop it down, remember, that tree is not in your yard. There will always be things in your life that you wish would be different.  Just like the tree, you might wish that someone or something about your job were different or a certain person would disappear off the face of the earth, or someone that you really, really love would behave differently or make the choices that you would want them to make.  But just like the tree, you can’t control another person’s journey. You may really, really want to, but that’s between them and God and in order for you to be at peace, you must let go of the outcome and let Him handle it. However, God loves you and He has given you a great strategy for dealing with your troubles.  First, trust in the fact that God wants you to be at peace so you can get on with your life, accomplish your mission and glorify Him in all that you do.  When you are whiney or worried, you certainly aren’t glorifying anyone, not yourself and surely not God.    He tells you specifically not to worry.  When you worry, the eyes of your heart are off Him and on the tree that is not in your yard.  Tell God, that you know you can’t handle whatever is filling up your heart with anxiety and hurt. All you can really do is to continue to sow seeds of love and kindness and when your spirit starts to sink, remind yourself that the mighty hand of the Creator of the Universe already has the situation handled, because every tree is in God’s yard.
