How To Move Your Heart From Despair To Hope: Sing A New Song

Psalm 94:17-19,22

If the LORD had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. If I should say, "My foot has slipped," Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up.  When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Thy consolations delight my soul. But the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge.

Psalm 95:1,2,7,8
O Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.

Matthew 6:8-10

"Your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him.  "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.’Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.’

God’s always got a message and a strategy just for you.  “This day, sing a new song” (Psalm 96:1).  You may be stuck in something that is no longer working for you, or worse, holding on to the shadow of a circumstance or relationship that is no longer there at all. This day, sing a new song.  When you are focused on anger, disappointment or whatever is wrong in your life, it’s like you are frozen inside a barrel with a lid closed tight.  In “Bible speak,” this is called “the abode of silence.”  The abode of silence is a place where all the boogie men come out and you go over and over in your mind how tricky things are for you.  It’s the place where all your “anxious thoughts multiply within you.”  But here comes God comes to the rescue.    Let His words “delight your soul” in order to knock the lid right off the barrel.  This day, sing a new song.  That means, try something different.  Talk a different talk.  Look for anything good in your day and talk the “grateful talk” about that.  Allow your mind to drift out of the barrel of despair by imagining doing something differently, whether it is the way that you think about or relate to someone in your life, a move you are thinking about making, or even a new exercise program you might try.  This day, sing a new song.  And here’s how you get “the words” to that song.  Say to God, “God, this is not working for me.  I need to break out of my barrel of fear/discouragement/anxiety that is holding me hostage.  This day, let it be Your day.  Show me something very clearly that I might do differently.” Because, guess what? God already knows what you need before you even ask.  He was just waiting on you.  And this last bit of advice: Today, if you would hear His voice, do not harden your heart (Psalm 95:7,8). Be open to new possibilities that you never even imagined. If they are God’s plans, they will be more than you could have ever hoped for or dreamed of (Ephesians 3:20). This day, sing a new song.
